1. Watched Bellflower a couple of nights back. It was like an album that saved its best songs for the end (a bad strategy for an album, but it works with film). What can I say about it? Sun, alcohol, flame, steel, tattoo ink, and blood.
Negatives:
- Features characters that I’m sure will remind you of real people you stumbled across in a bar.
- Actually, what I was trying to say with that last dash, I believe, is that some of the characters are very bro-y. Sorry for any confusion.
- I can’t say I felt bad for any character. This probably ties into the above notes.
Positives:
- The Element of Surprise.
- Saturated color. Probably doesn’t matter to many (or anyone) besides me, but I enjoy movies with that look. Spike Lee, and one of my favorite movies, Clockers, comes to mind when I think about saturation.
- The cinematography, and shit.
- I never stopped and said “this is a low-budget ass movie” more than once.
- One “special thanks” in the credits was for Puff Daddy. Apparently he gave Evan Glodell, the director, 1K one day. Of course, cameras were rolling when it happened, right?
There you have it. A review? you probably can’t use.
